|12:13 pm - Second Blogiversary|
Two years ago, it was Lent and L. and I had decided to pick up a habit for Lent, rather than giving one up. I pledged to write every day in my journal. And then, I saw my brother's LiveJournal, "A Voice from the Chorus." I had heard of blogs and was reading a few, and I liked the fact that LiveJournal was based on open source software. So, a light went off in my head and I got myself a LiveJournal account and transferred over my Lenten journaling to blogging. Here we are, two years later, and I'm still doing it. I thank my "blogbrother," pkhentz, and my blog muse, bird_prophet (a.k.a. "L.").
I took for my screen name sachem_head, which is the name of a rocky outcropping on the south end of the granite ridge that runs between downtown Greenfield (where I live) and the Connecticut River. Sachem Head is a place where L. and I like to hike up to. The title of the blog, "flash & yearn," comes from John Berryman's "Dream Song 14." To my mind, the imperitive "flash & yearn" is the beating heart of the poem, the tension that makes it hum. And my user picture? It's a photo by Paul Franz; the photo shows me, in my great-grandfather's kilt, at my wedding, putting the sgian dubh back in it's sock sheath.
Last year, to celebrate my blogiversary, I sketched out a list of posts from the year that I hoped would forefront the better angels of my blogging nature. It seems like a good tradition, so I'll offer it again:
Update 4/6: See this post on audience for more info about this blog.
Update 4/12: This blog is pseudonymous by tradition, however I don't mind if you know who I am.
Update 3/9/07: Check out the third annual list.
